Senior Golf

"Seniors Golf" is the biggest growth area in the game in recent years and Golf Queensland is continually attempting to provide more events for this group of golfers.  Some of the key events for seniors include:

Queensland Senior Club Teams Challenge - After being trialled as a pilot event in 2006, the event runs April to September and features teams of eight playing four Scratch single matches and two handicap Fourball Matches, all in Matchplay format. All players must be 55 Years and over and two must be 60 Years and Over.  Matches are played on a home and away basis. To enter the Queensland Senior Club Teams Challenge or get more information on the event click here  or call Golf Queensland on 07-3252 8155.

 

Queensland Senior Amateur Championship- for amateur golfers 55 years and over. 

 

Queensland Senior Open Championship - A major initiative of the Senior Advisory Group was the introduction of the Queensland Senior Open Championship in July 2006. A great deal of work has been underway for many months involving representatives of the former Queensland Golf Union, the PGA Queensland Division and host club, Nudgee Golf Club in an endeavour to hold the successful inaugural Championship. Now a permanent fixture on the golfing calendar, Golf Queensland encourages all senior golfers to support this event and to congratulate the Nudgee Golf Club for accepting the challenge to host the Senior Open Championship in Queensland. - click here for the event page.

 

Walking Stick Challenge - The inaugural "Walking Stick Challenge" was played in conjunction with the 2005 Victorian Senior Amateur Championship and was well received with teams competing from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. The event is now open to all States and Territories and rotates between Victoria, Queensland and NewSouth Wales, being held in conjunction with the State's Senior Amateur Championship on a rotational basis. 2009 is Queensland's turn.

 

GQ v ADFGA Match- In 2004, the Australian Defence Force Golf Association approached the former Queensland Golf Union about initiating an annual match between the Association's National Team and a team selected to represent the Queensland Golf Union. The GQ team consists of12 players - a number of these representatives being senior golfers. The annual ADFGA v's GQ match has proven to be very successful with camaraderie amongst all players second to none!! - click here for the event page

 

Jack Brown Shield - In co-operation with the PGA - Qld Division, Golf Queensland contest an annual match against a team from the PGA. Teams comprise 10 players.
